Narrative: From Twine to Unity
This will just be a quick blog post to discuss my switch between development programs. I did the first draft of each level's story in Twine, but the final game will be made in Unity. Twine is great because it is very easy to pick up. This was my first time using it, and it was very easy to learn. It allowed be to visually write a branching narrative, so blocking out the player's choices and how they would impact the rest of the story was super easy. Overall, it was great for the drafting stage.
Now that I am shifting my focus to putting all the elements of the game together, not just the story, I will no longer be working with Twine. I could keep making edits there, and maybe that would be easier than editing in Unity, but then I would continually have to copy and paste between the two programs. Switching to Unity now will make the rest of development easier.
So, I went ahead and transferred all of the Twine text into Unity, and I plan to make all of my edits there, too. The coding logic between the two programs is very different (Unity obviously being much more involved), so this will also give me the opportunity to hook everything up the way it is supposed to function in the final game.
