The Pazzi Conspiracy: An Educational Video Game
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
This game is Haley Price's honors Humanities thesis at the University of Texas at Austin. It was first published upon her graduation in Spring 2021.
What is this project?
This game is designed to teach high school and university students about the Italian renaissance with a particular focus on 15th century Florence and the Medici family. Aiming to illustrate patronage and power for the Medici, it includes five levels with their own teaching objectives: “Welcome to Florence,” “Patronage of Arts,” “Patronage of Humanism,” “Allies and Enemies,” and “The Pazzi Conspiracy.” With an eye to accessibility, the game is free to play online and is accompanied by an in-depth teaching guide to help instructors integrate it in their classrooms.
For Students:
Welcome to the Renaissance! You are a servant for the Medici family in 1478 Florence, exactly when a murder plot is forming to overthrow them! Can you stop the Pazzi Conspiracy and save your masters?
For Instructors:
Welcome to the Renaissance! See the teaching guide under "downloads" for more information about how to integrate this learning tool in your classroom.
Students will meet key figures in Florence and be a direct part of the network that ties them together. They will learn 1) how the Medici used their network of patronage to maintain political power from behind the scenes and 2) how others challenge that power.
