A2: Character Story


When the player first enters the level, they don't know where they are or what they are to do. They see stone walls that they can't scale. There are ambient sounds and shrubbery that suggest the player is outside. The only way to go is straight ahead, so the player starts walking.



As the player rounds the corner, they see a note. They pick it up and read it. It is from their beloved Princess, to whom they are betrothed. The Princess says she is hidden in the maze and waiting for the player to come meet her for their secret rendezvous. She has left a trail of hearts behind to guide the way, as well as a series of keys to help the player along. There is a key inside this note as well. 

The player, excited to meet with his love, saves the note and continues onward. Their lady awaits!




Just as the Princess promised, the player soon encounters a heart. Because of their love for the Princess, the player cannot let a single one escape their notice - they must collect them all! When the player collects the first heart, a counter appears in the top right of the screen to track how many hearts have been collected and how many are left.




The keys from the Princess' notes open doors throughout the maze, opening up new areas. 



After the player has found all of the keys, they will pass the final door to the end of the maze. They see a beautiful clearing with watchtowers and a central fountain. On the fountain's edge is one final note. The player hurriedly snatches up the note and reads it, hoping the Princess is nearby. The note informs them (in new, menacing handwriting) that the Princess was waiting for them but has been stolen away. She is in another castle. End of game.
